TELLICO VILLAGE VINTAGE VEHICLES
Minutes from the September 2010 monthly meeting
The President called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm.
Secretary’s Report - Approved, as posted on our website.
Treasurer’s Report - We have $866.37 and 57 paid members. It was also reported that our club lost money on our recent event at the Smokies baseball game. This was due to the fact that some members signed up and agreed to attend, but did not show up and did not pay for their tickets. DO NOT sign up for an event if you do not intend to participate.
Old Business-
Our Club Picnic will take place place on Tuesday, Sept. 7th at the Pavilion off of Route 444 (by the roped-off swim area and the A,B,C boat docks). It starts at 4pm. Remember to bring your own drinks, as well as an auction item. Note- the auction does not need to be car-related - - it just needs to be an item that someone would be interested in buying. The proceeds of the sale go into the Club’s treasury.
Steve West is planning a club event for October. This will be a Fall Color Tour of the Tail of the Dragon (an 11 mile section of Route 129 contains 318 turns). It is planned for Thursday, October 7th, which is the day after our next meeting. The leaves at that higher altitude should be in full color. This will be an all-day event, which will take us on the Cherohala and the Dragon. We will depart from the Hardware store at 9am.
Alex Gabbard is putting together an event for November. This will include a visit to the Titanic exhibit, plus a car museum tour. More details at the October meeting.
New Business-
Our monthly informal luncheon will occur on Wednesday, Sept. 15th. We will go to the “50s Hot Rod Diner” in the Maryville/Alcoa area. Because of the travel time, we will depart from the Hardware store at 10:30 (instead of the usual 11am).
That same day, Sept. 15th, we have an event at THE NEIGHBORHOOD facility. For newer members, their location is on Chatuga Drive (just south of the boat launch ramp near the south end of Tellico Village). Turn on Chatuga Drive and follow it all the way to the end. Arrive at 4:30 so we can conduct a parade past the front door, and then go inside for a tasty meal and a short program.
Chili Cookoff - This charity fundraiser will take place in Philadelphia (Philadelphia is located between Tellico Village and Sweetwater). The event will also include a car show. We would like as many members as possible to show up because it is so close, and it raises money for a good cause, and they have LOTS of chili to test and taste.
Gerry Bushyeager announced that he will be ordering car club shirts soon. Contact him if you are interested in getting 1 or 2.
Perry Anthony let us know that there is extra space in the building where he stores some of his cars. Anyone wishing to rent space should contact him.
Irv “Lucky” Southard won the free meal in the dinner drawing.
The meeting was adjourned at 7pm. Our next meeting will be October 6th at the cozy (small) Tanasi Restaurant. Arrive for dinner around 5:30 or be there by 6:30 for the start of the meeting.

TELLICO VILLAGE VINTAGE VEHICLES
August 2010 Meeting Minutes
Our President was out of town, therefore our Vice President conducted the meeting.
“Doc” Doolittle called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm on August 4th.
Secretary’s Report - The minutes, as posted on our website, were accepted and approved.
Treasurer’s Report - Our club has $950 in our treasury. Our club has 56 paid members. Report accepted as presented.
Old Business -
Doc brought to the attention of those present, that we do not have a Secretary. Loren Lesh was elected to serve as Secretary for 2008, as well as 2009 (both times in hotly-contested elections). Doc pointed out that eight months into the year, no one has stepped up to do their part. . . . therefore, Loren has agreed to fill in until a replacement is located. He also mentioned that the position of Secretary is not a difficult job - - you take notes at a meeting and then send them to the Webmaster to post on the website. And then. . . . well, and then. . there isn’t anything else = it is simple , and yet essential.
Our overnight trip to Greeneville, Tennessee developed into a wonderful occasion. The weather was perfect (sure, it was 150 degrees, but it did not rain), the places we visited were educational, historic and inspirational. As a group, we found out that Walt Disney was incorrect = Davy, Davy Crockett was NOT born on a mountaintop in Tennessee, and NO, he did not kill him a bear when he was only three. We also visited a car museum with a good selection of automobiles (including foreign, domestic, plus an Elton John Rolls Royce). It was at the museum that we viewed the Robert Mitchum movie, Thunder Road.
Reminder = Our club’s trip to the Smokies baseball game will take place Friday, Aug. 20th. The price is only 23 dollars per person. Admission is included - - you sit in a special picnic area with your fellow members (some of the most intelligent and best looking people there) . . . you have an all you can eat and drink picnic dinner (beer is extra) . . . then you watch the game. After the game, you get to see a fantastic fireworks display (do NOT try this at home. . . .at least not in your living room).
Hugs For Soldiers - - This is an organization in Tellico Village (Kahite) that collects supplies for our Armed Forces, and then distributes them. They need small items = individual shampoo, conditioner etc. (from your last motel visit), also packs of crackers, etc. and mouthwash, sunblock , disposable razors, small bars of soap (also from motels). Feel free to help out our troops (overseas and in the USA) by placing these items in a ziplock and putting in the collection box at the Tanasi Restaurant. Also maybe include a note that it is from a member of the Tellico Vintage Vintage Vehicles.
Club Picnic - - Our club picnic will occur on Tuesday, Sept. 7th at the Pavillion next to the A,B,C Docks and the roped-off swim area (just off Route 444). Your club will provide most of the picnic items. Arrive at 4 pm and bring just a few things = a SMILE (be ready to have fun), plus a dessert or other special dish to share, and an auction item. Our club used to have an auction at each major event, then we seemed to stop last year. We missed it because it was so much fun - - so it is back, like General MacArthur.
Club Luncheon - - Our July 21st club luncheon went to Ayala’s Restaurant. Thirteen members attended.
Our September luncheon is tentatively set for HOT RODS 50s Diner in downtown Maryville.
New Business - -
We are arranging a tour of the new Titanic Museum, plus the Muscle Car Museum of Floyd Garrett. More details later.
We are in the process of planning another run on the Tail of the Dragon (11 miles - - 318 turns). More details to follow.
Future tour - - private car collection or Ron Jones.
Oct. 16th - - Chili Cook-Off, car show & event in Philadelphia
Our visitor- Skip with AirCool Classics gave a presentation.
Cruise-In - - It was decide that our club would attend a Maryville Cruise-In (Foothills Mall) on Fariday, Aug. 13th. We will leave the Poplar Springs boat ramp (north end of Village) at 4:45 pm Friday.
Closing=
Page Lesh won dinner.
Meeting was adjourned by “Doc” Doolittle.
Note= Next meeting is Wednesday, Sept. 1st, at Tanasi Restaurant. Arrive by 6:30 pm for the meeting, or arrive 5:15/5:30 to order off the menu and dine with your fellow members.

Former Secretary

Secretary’s Report – Accepted as posted.

They had everything for a wood-bodied car to some 3 wheel cars to a propeller driven car and propeller driven motorcycle.
Last month’s luncheon included a trip to the garage owned by Ray Paransky. Following a tour of his facilities, we returned to the Tanasi Restaurant to dine.
New Business - The Harriman Cruise-In will take place this Saturday, April 10th. This is an event which occurs on the second Saturday of each month (starting in April).
A suggestion was made that we consider a trip to the new Titanic Exposition which has opened in Sevierville. We could go to the exhibit and afterward, we could tour the Floyd Garrett Muscle Car Museum. We will work on this suggestion.

Note- - Gerald wrote a book which is titled, “The Loudon County Area of East Tennessee In The War 1861-1865”. He said that the book is no longer in print, so he advises checking it out of the Library (because the on-line prices are ridiculously high).

Jere noted that Dan Peransky will be our speaker at the March meeting.
Our Club’s informal luncheon will take place on February 17th. We will meet at the Hardware Store at 11am. A restaurant in Madisonville was suggested since they will provide us with a separate room for dining. Those who show up at the Hardware will make the decision where the group will dine. This event is a good way to meet and get to know other members.
Fred Kanwischer announced that the Club’s next major event will be a road trip to the Lane Motor Museum near Nashville. This will take place on Thursday, March 11. The plan is to meet at the Hardware store in time to depart around 9am. Because of the distance, we will car pool to the museum (of course, anyone can drive their classic car if they don’t mind a 5 hour round trip). Because of the different time zone and the travel time to arrive there, we will have lunch before touring the museum. See their website for more information - www.LaneMotorMuseum.org
Alex Gabbard gave information about the Tennessee Dept. of Tourism. They are trying to set up a White Lightning Festival on June 26 in Claiborne County. Note: that county is north of Knoxville and touches the Kentucky border. They are also considering establishing a Thunder Road Trail.

A suggestion was made and was voted through for our Club to donate $100 to the A.L.S. charity in honor of Don Voorhis.
John “Hoss” Hallstrand discussed our Club’s website and the usage of it. Please take the time to view our website regularly and to sign on to the Forum section in order to view comments and make your own comments.
Each month, we will be drawing a name from the members who dine at our monthly meeting. That person will receive a check at the next meeting which will cover the cost of his dinner (if husband and wife dine, it will cover both meals). The name drawn for our February meeting was Rick Gibson. Congratulations.
A check was then presented to Perry Anthony, who was our winner for the January meeting.
The meeting was adjourned. Our next meeting will be Wednesday, March 3rd at 6:30 pm. Arrive early (5 to 5:30 ) if you wish to dine with fellow members.

Comments=
Don Edmands spoke about Ethanol in gasoline. Nobody, especially “car people”, likes it. Gas mileage drops about 15 percent.
Don also announced that he was able to go to Pikes Peak Raceway and drive Dodge SRTs (because he had bought one). He drove an example on the track most of the day and was THRILLED.
Perry Anthony and his much younger wife won free dinners this evening. How did that happen? ? ? Well a member and/or spouse must attend a meeting during 2010 and order dinner. At the end of the meeting, we draw a name and pay for their dinner. So if you enjoy the food at the Tanasi Restaurant, but would enjoy it more if it were free = please attend a meeting so you will have a chance.
Tom Dean announced that he is looking for a 455 Buick engine. (maybe he will install it in a Honda Civic, so he can get to the Grocery Store quicker. If you hear of one for sale, let him know.
Our meeting was adjourned at 7pm. Our club luncheon will occur on January 20th – see the website for details. The upcoming February meeting will be on Feb. 3rd - -6:30 pm at Tanasi Restaurant.

Past member participation suggests that this is a not to be missed event. For $25 p/p, you will receive all you can eat and drink and be entertained by bluegrass music. Happy Halloween y’all!
